By the Minister of Culture’s 225457/24-5-2024 decree of proclamation / re-proclamation (ΦΕΚ 20/ΑΣΕΠ/29-5-2924, ΑΔΑ: 6ΝΨΧ46ΝΚΟΤ-ΛΡΘ ), the following competitions are proclaimed:
A. Competition to fill a vacancy of one (1) permanent position for artistic personnel, 5th Category Musician (Tutti), for the First Violins at the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra (Public Service under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture).
Re-proclaimed:
B. Competition to fill a vacancy of one (1) permanent position for artistic personnel, 5th Category Musician (Tutti), for the second and fourth (2-4) Trombone at the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra (Public Service under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture), given that in the competition that took place by the Minister of Culture’s 3823/15-1-2024 decree (ΑΔΑ: 6Υ4Δ46ΝΚΟΤ-0ΟΗ, ΦΕΚ 5/Τ.ΑΣΕΠ/22-1-2024) "Notice of Competitions/Auditions for five (5) vacancies for artistic personnel in permanent positions at the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra", none of the candidates for the aforementioned position were declared successful, therefore rendering the competition void.
Candidates must :
- In terms of nationality be:
a) Greek citizens or
b) Citizens from Member States of the EU or
c) Northern Epirotes or Greek Cypriots or expatriates Greeks from Istanbul or from the islands of Imbros (Gökçeada) and Tenedos (Bozcaada), as well as Greek expatriates from Egypt, without the obligation to present a certification of Greek nationality, on condition that their status as Greeks according to race and their national conscience is proven in other ways (Legislative Decree 3832/1958 – GG 128/A/1958).
d) Those who acquired Greek citizenship through naturalization are also eligible to apply.
- Be at least 21 years old, or, in the case of musicians of acknowledged talent, over the age of 15.
- Meet the health and physical condition requirements to exercise the duties of the specific work position, within the meaning of the provisions of Article 1(7) of Law 3528/2007, of the Greek legislation, as in force.
- Not have any hindrance due to criminal conviction or awaiting trial, nor be placed under judicial interdiction or judicial support (Article 1(8) of Law 3528/2007).
The auditions will be held in Thessaloniki in a venue to be announced by the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra.
The starting date for the auditions is Wednesday, August 28th, 2024.
Candidates taking part in the competitions to fill the aforementioned vacant positions are not required to submit a diploma or degree in the corresponding specialization (instrument) that they compete for at the time of their application, however, the possession of a diploma or degree in the corresponding specialization will constitute a prerequisite for the eventual placement of the successful candidates to the permanent positions after their 2-year probation period.
All those wishing to take part in the auditions must, within a limitation period of thirty (30) days from the date of the last publication of this announcement in the daily press, submit or send their candidature by registered post to the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra (2, Pittakou str., 54645, Thessaloniki, GREECE, 4th floor) using the special application form provided by the orchestra.
Application forms with copies of this announcement are available to every interested party from the Offices of the aforementioned Public Service (Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra).
Along with the application form, the candidate must submit their CV and any other information which may best showcase their artistic profile and ability.
In particular, candidates who claim acknowledged exceptional musical talent by filling in the corresponding field in the application form, are required to submit proof justifying their claim.
The aforementioned proof will be validated by the appointed by law Audition Committee. After checking the relevant supporting documents of every such candidate, the said Committee will confirm the details which constitute
‘acknowledged artistic talent
’ that will permit the candidates to enter the audition.
Failure to submit such details along with the application to take part in the audition will render any subsequent claim of the aforementioned status void.
Audition Repertoire
According to the ΥΠΠΟ/ΚΑΤΕΧΝ/Δ/35836/22-7-1999 (Β ́1604) decree of the Ministry of Culture, the examination material that constitutes the audition repertoire of the candidates, according each instrument and category of artistic personnel, is as follows:
For the 5th Category Musician (Tutti) Violin position:
a. From one of the following concerti: WIENIAVVSKY No 2, MENDELSSOHN, BRUCH: 1st movement with Cadenza
b. MOZART: From one of the following concerti: No 3 (in G), No 4 (in D), No 5 (in A): 1st movement with Cadenza
c. Excerpts from orchestral works (without the Soli)
For the 5th Category Musician (Tutti) Trombone position for the second and fourth (2-4) Trombone:
a. DAVID: Concerto in E flat major, 1st movement
b. Excerpts from orchestral works
c. Prima vista
(For bass trombone: E. SACHSE: Concertino in F Major)
The audition and examination of the candidates takes place before the Audition Committee without an audience. Only the presence of musicians of the Orchestra who belong to the same family of instruments as the examined instrument is permitted, in accordance with the terms of Article 1(7) of Ministerial Decision no ΥΠΠΟ/ΚΑΤΕΧΝ/35836/22-7-1999.
The lists of successful candidates, according to instrument, will contain the same number of successful candidates as there are positions, as announced, and will be posted on the wall of the Offices and on the Orchestra
’s notice board in the presence of two (2) employees. Relevant proceeding records will be drafted and then sent to the Human Resources Management Directorate of the Ministry of Culture.
Successful candidates will be asked to submit all legal supporting documents as requested by the Human Resources Management Directorate of the Ministry of Culture via written notice.
The place in which the auditions will be held, as well as every other matter relevant to them will be determined and announced by the Audition Committee. The official announcements will be displayed on the premises of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra’s administrative offices, as well as on the aforementioned Orchestra
’s official website (www.tsso.gr).

Contestants are required to bring their own piano accompanist for their performance.
All contestants will have the opportunity to rehearse once with the piano in the rehearsal hall where the auditions will be held (times will be allocated according to their instrument and the audition dates). More information on this will follow.
