Yulianna Avdeeva stupefied and moved the audience
20 March 2022
Yulianna Avdeeva's unparalleled skill, fiery temperament and unquestionable class have received rave reviews from experts and have won audiences in every corner of the globe. On Friday, it was the turn of music lovers in Thessaloniki to enjoy this wonderful pianist, in a riveting performance of Sergei Rachmaninoff's 'Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini', and in fact she was in a strong emotional charge about what was happening in Ukraine.
The audience greeted Yulianna Avdeeva at the end asking for a bis and she responded positively, saying that she would like to share with the audience a piece by Ukrainian composer Valentin Silvestrov, who was evicted from his home in Kyiv two weeks ago and is now safe, in Germany. So she would like to dedicate the song ‘Bagatella’, which he coposed in 2005, to her friends and all the people who are suffering in Ukraine.
The concert started with the world premiere of the play ‘Oceanus Procellarum’ by Lina Tonia, who received applause from the audience when the conductor invited her on stage, while in the second part K.O.TH. performed Brahms' 'Fourth Symphony', conducted by Philippe Bach, who won audiences and musicians in his first collaboration with the orchestra under such stressful conditions as the extraordinary replacement of Zoi Tsokanou.
One hour before the start of the concert, an introductory speech was made in the foyer of the balcony, by the Associate Professor of the Department of Music Studies of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and musicologist Georgios Sakallieros, who analyzed the works of the program to the public and gave very interesting and useful information for their understanding.
