The 16th International Competition "Dimitri Mitropoulos"
for Orchestra Conducting 28 - 31 May 2024.
The
Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra is delighted to announce the revival of the International Competition "Dimitri Mitropoulos" under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture. The competition will take place in Thessaloniki from 28 to 31 May 2024 in cooperation with the Thessaloniki Concert Hall Organization and with the support of the Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra, Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra and Plovdiv Opera Symphony Orchestra.
The International Competition “Dimitri Mitropoulos” was an internationally renowned institution created in 1996 under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture for the centenary of the birth of the great Greek conductor. In the 15 years during which it had been held, it has brought out many renowned conductors and composers from all over the world.
The Jury of the 16
th Competition consists of the distinguished conductors Thomas Sanderling, Miltos Logiadis, Michalis Εkonomou, Giorgos Vranos, Nayden Todorov, and Dian Chobanov.
The prizes are: €14,000 (1
st prize), €7,000 (2
nd prize), and €3,000 (3
rd prize). The 1
st prize will be accompanied by invitations to concerts with the following orchestras:
- Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra
- Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra
- Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra
- Plovdiv Opera Symphony Orchestra
