A moving tribute to Oscar Ghiglia 23 September 2024

The Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra (TSSO) kicked off its events for the 59th Dimitria Festival on Saturday at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki with a heartfelt tribute to the late guitar legend Oscar Ghiglia. Ghiglia had spent the last 14 years of his life in Thessaloniki and 13 years prior in Athens.
Three distinguished guitarists, including his wife Elena Papandreou and two of his cherished students, Vojin Kocić and Thodoris Theodoroudis, performed pieces by Frescobaldi, Turina, José, Hindemith, and Hatzidakis. They also shared memories of Ghiglia, while excerpts from the Netflix documentary "Oscar’s Lesson" were screened. Special thanks were extended to Manos Efstratiadis and Maurizio Grandinetti for their crucial technical support in creating the audiovisual content.
The event was introduced by Simos Papanas. This concert was part of the Chamber Music Festival, co-organized by TSSO and the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, as well as the 59th Dimitria Festival.
