The Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra and Kyprianos Katsaris gifted the people of Thessaloniki a beautiful musical evening. 19 October 2024

The twinning of TSSO with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra facilitates performances by these two leading Balkan orchestras in each other’s countries, offering exceptional musical experiences. Yesterday, as part of the Dimitria Festival, Thessaloniki enjoyed a remarkable concert. The event began with the 7th of Vladigerov’s seven symphonic dances, followed by Kyprianos Katsaris' masterful performance of Beethoven’s 3rd piano concerto, which earned him an enthusiastic response and two encores. During the second encore, Katsaris engaged the audience by asking them to choose three random notes—C, G, and A—on which he then improvised a new piece. The concert continued with Saint-Saëns’ majestic "Symphony of the Church Organ," performed magnificently by the Sofia Philharmonic, to which the audience responded with great enthusiasm. The orchestra was conducted by its Artistic Director and the Bulgarian Minister of Culture, Nayden Todorov.
