With TSSO performing masterpieces of Greek and international repertoire, the Venizelos Station at the Thessaloniki Metro was unveiled yesterday. The event was attended by the Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, who guided the Prime Minister, the President of the Republic, Government Ministers, the Mayor of Thessaloniki, and other political and state representatives through the archaeological site.
Under the baton of Vladimiros Symeonidis, the musicians of TSSO performed four Greek dances by Nikos Skalkottas and Vivaldi's 'Concerto No. 5 for Two Violins in A Major, Op. 3,' featuring soloists Simos Papanas and Antonis Sousamoglou. This was followed by H.I. Biber's 'Sonata à 7 in C Major,' and the musical ritual concluded with Antonis Sousamoglou's composition 'Raiko.'
Notably, two of the works performed have been recorded by TSSO with internationally acclaimed record companies—Skalkottas' Dances by Naxos and Vivaldi's Concerto by Deutsche Grammophon. Sousamoglou's 'Raiko,' based on a traditional Macedonian theme, has also been recorded by Deutsche Grammophon.
Tonight, TSSO’s concert titled 'Urban' (at the Ceremony Hall of A.U.Th., 21:00) is linked to the inauguration of the Metro. The program will present works that reflect urban life, culture, and mentality in various ways.
