The 11th International Piano Competition "Giorgos Thymis" Begins 23 January 2025

The Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, in partnership with the Friends of the T.S.S.O. and the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, is hosting the globally recognized piano competition named after the celebrated Greek composer and long-time Director of the T.S.S.O., Giorgos Thymis.
 
From January 23rd to 31st, 2025, 72 young pianists from around the globe and 7 esteemed judges will participate in the 11th International Piano Competition "Giorgos Thymis" in Thessaloniki.
 
This biennial competition is a premier musical event for Thessaloniki, drawing exceptional pianists from across the world and captivating piano enthusiasts.

Awards:
 
First Prize: €5,000, performance with the T.S.S.O., solo recital at Thessaloniki Concert Hall, solo recital in another Greek city.
Second Prize: €3,500, solo recital in Thessaloniki.
Third Prize:€2,000, solo recital in Thessaloniki.
Best Greek Contestant Prize:€2,000.
 
The judging panel may choose not to award the First Prize. The "Best Greek Contestant" prize is not awarded if the contestant has won one of the top three prizes. Contestants must hold a Greek passport or ID.
 
Competition Phases:
 
1. Preliminary Round: Contestants present a 20-minute program showcasing their technical and artistic abilities.
2.Semi-Final Round: Contestants perform a 60-minute repertoire from various eras and styles.
3. Final Round: Finalists perform a major piano concerto with the T.S.S.O. under the direction of Daniel Geiss.
 
The final will take place on January 31st, 2025, at 20:30 at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall (M1), where the three finalists will perform a piano concerto with the T.S.S.O. under the baton of Daniel Geiss. Awards will be presented following the performances.
 
Competition Events:
 
January 23rd, 20:00: Opening Ceremony.
January 24th-26th: Preliminary Round, 10:00-15:00 & 17:00-21:30, Art Hall of the Charitable Brotherhood of Men of Thessaloniki.
January 27th-28th: Semi-Final Round, 10:00-14:00 & 17:00-21:00, Art Hall of the Charitable Brotherhood of Men of Thessaloniki.
January 31st: Final Round at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall (M1), accompanied by the T.S.S.O.
