Edel is one of Europe's leading independent record labels, also active in literature and home entertainment. Since 1986, it has managed the releases of top artists across diverse genres, frequently topping international charts.
About the Artists:
Tassilo Probst, a promising German violinist, is known for his versatile performances, exceptional technique, emotional depth, and captivating stage presence. He has won numerous national and international competitions such as the "Concours International de Violon Tibor Varga" and the "Georges Enescu Violin Competition." He has performed as a soloist with renowned orchestras including the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, NFM Wrocław Philharmonic, George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, and Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie, among others. Reflecting on his first experience with the orchestra, he said: "I feel absolutely wonderful. I arrived last night, and we've already had a rehearsal. Playing with the entire orchestra is simply amazing. It's so much fun. I can see that the musicians really enjoy their time, rehearsals, and recordings, and it's just so much fun to be with them. I'm really looking forward to the recording."
Daniel Geiss is regarded as one of the most versatile musicians of his generation. Since 2020, he has been the artistic and musical director of the Belgrade Chamber Orchestra and was appointed musical director of the BrixenClassics Festival in the fall of 2020. In the fall of 2022, he was also named General Music Director of the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic and the State Theater of Neustrelitz. Geiss has been active as a conductor, cellist, and lecturer for nearly two decades. About the new collaboration with the T.S.S.O. for this recording, he stated: "This is the second time I am working with the orchestra; I was here a year and a half ago, and I am extremely happy to be back because I feel that the collaboration and the chemistry with the orchestra are truly beautiful. Already now, working with them in the past few days, the orchestra is very focused, and I believe they bring a lot of different colors and varied elements to this piece. I am really very happy to be working with them again, and I am also very happy to be back in this city. I love it very much and enjoy my return to Thessaloniki."
Christos Samaras, the composer, attended the rehearsals of his work before it was recorded and shared his thoughts: "It is a great honor, and I am delighted that the T.S.S.O. is including my Lamento in their recording, which will be released by our orchestra and an internationally recognized record label, Edel Classics, with the excellent maestro Daniel Geiss and soloist Tassilo Probst. It is a work that I personally consider a pinnacle, as it moves like a vast sonic mosaic within the framework of mixing our Greek tradition and the broader musical postmodern global environment. It is a musical kaleidoscope of expressive and virtuosic elements with an emphasis on lyricism and life's reflection."
