17th International “Dimitri Mitropoulos” Composition Competition

The Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra is honored to announce the 17th International “Dimitri Mitropoulos” Composition Competition, held with the support of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture. The competition will take place in Thessaloniki on November 2nd, 2025, in collaboration with the Thessaloniki Concert Hall Organization.

The 17th International “Dimitri Mitropoulos” Composition Competition marks the second edition of this internationally acclaimed institution under the auspices of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, which undertook its revival in May 2024. Originally established in 1996 with the support of the Ministry of Culture to commemorate the centenary of the great Greek conductor’s birth, the competition was held for 15 years, fostering the careers of numerous distinguished conductors and composers worldwide.
 
The Jury of the 17th Competition consists of renowned composers:
Tan Dun (Chairman of the Jury), David Bruce, Michalis Economou, Christos Samaras, Christos Hatzis, John Psathas.
 
The competition awards are announced as follows:
First Prize: €14.000, Second Prize: €7.000, Third Prize: €3.000
 
Applications will be accepted until August 31, 2025. The Competition Rules and the Application Form are available on the official competition website.
