Mikel – Andres Michaelides was born in Thessaloniki in 1983 into a musical family. At the age of three he began his violin studies under the guidance of his father and violin teacher, Mikis Michaelides. At the age of eighteen he received his Violin Diploma with “Excellent unanimous and Award for excellent performance” from the Contemporary Conservatory of Thessaloniki and then continued for his postgraduate studies in Germany (Hochschule für Musik, Trossingen) with professors F. Agostini and E. Fisher.
He has attended as an active member many violin and chamber music seminars in Greece and abroad with: Leonidas Kavakos, Stelios Kafantari, Christos Polyzoidis, Dimitris Polyzoidis, Angel Stankov, Valery Oistrakh, Ara Malikian etc. He has been awarded first prize twice in local and national violin competitions and second prize twice. After auditioning, he was chosen to play as a soloist the 'Violin Concerto' by F. Mendelssohn with the Tubingen Symphony Orchestra, touring Greece and Germany. He was also chosen to play as a soloist the 'Four Seasons' by A. Vivaldi with the Cyprus Youth Orchestra at an event in honor and in the presence of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, G. Clerides.
He has also collaborated as a soloist with the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, Athens and Cyprus orchestras, with the Tubingen Kammerorchester, as well as in Romania with the Arad Symphony Orchestra, performing the 'Violin Concerto' by J. Brahms. He has given many violin and chamber music recitals in Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Austria and Germany. Since 2004 he has been a permanent member of the second violins of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra He is also a founding member of the X-Pause string quartet.
In the 2018-2019 season he was the soloist of the educational programs of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra on the theme of A.Vivaldi's 'Four Seasons'. He also filmed a chamber music concert for TV100, while he was chosen to present the violin in the video recordings of string instruments for the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra's YouTube channel, as part of the distance learning programs due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In the spring semester of the 2021-22 academic year, he was selected as teaching staff for the course "Aristotle University Symphony Orchestra String Workshop". In November 2022, he performed concerts in Cyprus, performing the world premiere of Michalis Andronikos' work "De Profundis" dedicated to Solon Michaelides for solo violin and string orchestra.
