Dimosthenis Fotiadis

 
Dimosthenis Fotiadis studied viola, music theory, and conducting at Thessaloniki  State Conservatory. He continued his studies in Germany ( Hochschule für Musik, Münster), as well as at the Department of Music Science and Art of the University of Macedonia, from which he graduated with honors. He earned his Master’s and Doctorate degrees with honors from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, focusing his research on musculoskeletal disorders among symphony orchestra musicians. Currently, he is a PhD candidate at the Department of Music Science and Art of the University of Macedonia, where his research centeres on the critical edition of the symphonic works of Christos Dellas.
He is a member of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, as well as a founding member of the ANIMUS Quartet (since 1999) and the NOMOS String Orchestra (since 2012). He has taught viola and chamber music at Thessaloniki Municipal Conservatory and Thessaloniki State Conservatory. He has performed to great acclaim in recitals and chamber music concerts both in Greece and abroad and has made recordings for radio and television. For several years, he served as a member of the judging committee for the Student Arts Competition of the Hellenic Ministry of Education.
As a conductor, he has collaborated with the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the Orchestra Valahia of Bucharest, the Balkan Youth Symphony Orchestra, the European Youth Symphony Orchestra "Progressive", the NOMOS String Orchestra, the Pro Musica String Orchestra, as well as the symphony orchestras of the Department of Music Science and Art of the University of Macedonia (M.S.A./U.M.), the Music Schools of Central Macedonia, and Thessaloniki State Conservatory (T.C.H.). Furthermore, he has conducted various musical ensembles in world premieres of works by emerging composers.
He is also active as a music publications editor. Orchestrations, transcriptions, and arrangements commissioned from him have been featured in concert programs by various orchestras and ensembles on behalf of institutions such as Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra (T.S.S.O.), Thessaloniki City Symphony Orchestra (T.C.S.O.), Thessaloniki Concert Hall (T.C.H.), Thessaloniki State Conservatory (T.S.C.), among others.
He consistently dedicates a large part of his artistic activity to young musicians. A pioneer in creating youth music ensembles, he has successfully conducted the orchestras of Thessaloniki Municipal Conservatory (1998-2011), Thessaloniki State Conservatory (2003 to present), and  Conservatory of Northern Greece (2010-2015). Parallel to his artistic career, he has participated as a speaker in seminars, conferences, and fora, and has authored scientific articles published in Greek and international academic journals.
