Apostolos Chandrakis

He studied cello at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki under Manolis Kazambakas. After receiving his diploma, he continued his studies as an I.K.Y. (State Scholarships Foundation) scholar with Senta Benesch and Angelica May at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where he obtained the title of Magister Artium. He attended masterclasses with F. J. Sellheim, H. Schiff, M. Maisky, and P. Tortelier.
As a soloist, he has performed various works for cello and orchestra, including the world premiere of Dimitris Themelis' 1st Cello Concerto.
He has taught cello and chamber music at the State, Municipal, and New Conservatory of Thessaloniki, as well as at the University of Macedonia.
He is a founding member of the New Hellenic Quartet, with which he has toured worldwide and recorded a significant number of works for string quartet, receiving rave reviews from both domestic and international press.
Today, he is the Principal Cello of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra.
