Dmitrii Gudimov

The cellist Dmitrii Gudimov was born in Moscow, Russia. At the age of five he enrolled in the Aram Khachaturian State Music School, a special school for talented children, from which he graduated with “Excellent” in 1986. He continued his studies at the renowned Gnessin Higher State Music College, with professor A. Benditsky.
During the years 1981-2019 he participated in local and international music competitions and festivals, winning numerous prizes and commendations. At the age of 14, as one of the winners of the all-Moscow competition of cellists, he made his concerto debut in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory.
From 1991 to 1996, he was a proud recipeint of the Mayor of Moscow fellowship at Gnessin Russian Academy of Music, where he was a student of  B. Scoblo. He took lessons with (among others) V. Feygin and N. Gutman (1991-2004) and attended seminars with P. Muller and M. Rostropovich (1997, 2002). In 2011 he completed his postgraduate studies in the Solo Performance and the Research Department of the same Academy, in the class of V. Tonha, under the supervision of researcher I. Schehovtsova, while in 2016 he earned his PhD in musicology at the State Institute for Art Studies, Moscow.
He held the position of principal cellist at the Moscow Municipal Opera (Helikon Opera) under the direction of D. Bertman (1990-1993) and at the Moscow Symphony Orchestra (1993-1996), under the artistic direction of A. de Almeida.
He has appeared as a soloist and as a member of orchestral ensembles and groups in many countries in Europe (Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Romania, Russia), Asia (Japan, China, South Korea, Hong Kong) and Africa (Egypt, Tunisia). He has performed together with world-renowned conductors and soloists such as A. de Almeida, C. Abbado, R. Barshai, M. Gorenshtein, M. Schostakovitch, Y. Talmi, K. Trikolidis, N. Gutman, V. Viardo and L. Kavakos.
The Albanian, Bulgarian, German, Greek and Russian Television and Radio have recorded a number of his studio and live performances. For series of his recordings, he collaborated with Naxos Records, Marco Polo and RMG Records.  
He has participated in international festivals such as Golden autumn (Moscow), Das Festival der Musik und der Farben (Ingolstadt), Festival de musique (Seignosse), "Herodeon" Athens Festival and “Demetria” (Thessaloniki).
Dmitrii has not only proven himself a versatile solo, chamber and orchestra musician, but also a researcher and passionate educator. His research articles, devoted to topical issues of history and contemporary performing arts, have been presented at international scientific conferences and have been published in prestigious international scientific journals.
He also taught violoncello at the Moscow State Regional College of Arts, National Academy of Fine Arts of Egypt and University of Ioannina. He gave master classes in Albania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Russia and Egypt.
At present, he is the first principal cellist of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, a founder member of Vernissage chamber ensemble and Storm String Quartet and teaches cello at the Municipal Conservatory of Pylaia-Chortiatis and at the New Conservatory of Thessaloniki.
