Dimitrios Alexandrou
Dimitrios Alexandrou was born in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1976.
He studied Violoncello by Prof. Dimitrios Patras in the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki, where he graduated in 1996 with the highest possible marks.
He continued his studies with a state scholarship (I.K.Y.) in the “Hochschule für Musik” in Berlin, by Prof. M. Sanderling, where he got his “Orchestermusiker” Diploma in 2001.
He was twice awarded with the 1st Prize in the international “Jugend musiziert” competition (Athens 1990, Milan 1992) and the 3rd Prize in the international chamber music competition of “HELEXPO” (Thessaloniki 1999).
He joined actively Master classes with Siegfried Palm (P.Hindemith Foundation scholarship), S.Isserlis, A.Bylsma, J.F.Sellheim, D.Patras, K.Heitz, L.Claret.
In 1995 he joined the Tour of the “Orchestre des Jeunes de la Méditerranée” and in 2002 the North and South America Tour of the “Hellenic Camerata”.
Since 2001 he is a member of the State Symphony Orchestra of Thessaloniki and he teaches Violoncello in music schools in Northern Greece.
He is a Doctorate Candidate in the University of Macedonia (Department of Music Science and Art) under the supervision of Prof. D. Patras.
As a founding member of the “3essence ensemble” he performed in all major festivals in northern Greece (Demetria, Sani festival, Κ.Ο.Θ. Underground).
He speaks fluently English (Proficiency) and German (Abitur).
In 2015 he was one of the main coordinators of the 5th Κ.Ο.Θ. Underground Festival.
He is married to the musicologist Angela Clausnitzer and they have four children together.
