Konstantinos Vavalas

Konstantinos Vavalas was born in the city of Komotini in 1976. Initially, he attended Recorder and music theory lessons and then he studied classical guitar, for six years, at the Conservatory of Northern Greece in Thessaloniki. At the age of 12, he began his Bassoon studies at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki, under the tutelage of Prof. Vassilis Zarogas. He continued his studies in Germany, where he was admitted to the Karlsruhe Higher Music Academy in 1994. He attended the class of Prof. Günter Pfitzenmaier, specializing in Bassoon and Contrabassoon. He graduated in 1999 with Honours, unanimously.
In 2000, he returned to Greece and worked as a temporary musician at the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra. From 2003 to 2017, he held the position of Sub-principal Bassoon with Contrabassoon in the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra and, since August 2017, he holds the position of Principal Bassoon in the same Orchestra.
He has been a member of the Woodwind Quintet of Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, a regular associate of the dissonArt ensemble and Orpheus Soloists, and a founding member of the Contra Tempo Chamber Orchestra.
Since 2020, he has been teaching Bassoon and Contrabassoon in the Department of Music Science and Art of the University of Macedonia.
