The Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra honored in the best way the 100th anniversary of the Asia Minor Disaster and the occasion of the three – day celebrations which started with the Thessaloniki liberation and climaxed with the national anniversary of “OXI” in October the 28th.
The favourite work of all the Greeks, the “Axion Esti”, with the amazing lyrics by Odysseus Elytis and Mikis Theodorakis’ authentic Greek emblematic music was performed by a pleiad of great artists. All of them performed perfectly, revealing the variety of sentiments and meanings this masterpiece encapsulates. The TSSO under the direction of Georgios Vranos, the singer Kostas Makedonas, the baritone Tassis Christoyannis, the actor Leonidas Kakouris in the role of narrator and the Thessaloniki Mixed Choir with their choir master Mary Konstantinidou, offered to the public, a unique musical experience, unforgettable to all those privileged to attend.
The concert took place under the aegis of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakelaropoulou, who was present. Many delegates of the formal State, the Local Government Administration, the Security Forces, Foreign Embassies, Local Institutions and of course many citizens filled suffocatingly the Thessaloniki Concert Hall and enjoyed the concert.
