The rich musician May of TSSO started off ideally 04 May 2025

This year's May of the TSSO is full of great concerts and began ideally on Friday, May 2, at the Aristotle University Ceremonial Hall, with the concert 'Rite of Spring', where in addition to Igor Stravinsky's masterpiece of the same name, the program also included the 'Funeral Song' by the brilliant Russian composer, who wrote it for the funeral of his great teacher Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Since this concert was part of the 'Students and Teachers' cycle, the program concluded with Korsakov's unique 'Piano Concerto' in memory of Liszt, with its enormous technical difficulties, culminating in his famous cadenza. The exceptionally talented Turkish pianist Can Çakmur successfully rose to the challenge and rightfully earned the warm applause of the audience, returning with two encores. The TSSO was conducted in this demanding and interesting program by its Principal Conductor Leo McFall, who once again experienced the apotheosis, along with the orchestra, by the city's audience.
